How to check that a door is installed well
Good installation is easy to spot if you know where to look. Check three things — it takes a couple of minutes.
01
The door closes quietly and without play
The leaf reaches the frame softly, without rattling or knocking. That means the frame is level and the hinges are adjusted.
02
The casings are straight and fit tightly
There are no gaps between the casing and the wall, the corners meet without gaps and the lines are straight. A crooked casing usually gives away a skewed frame.
03
The lock works effortlessly
The latch catches the strike plate on the first try, the leaf presses against the seal and nothing catches. Such a door keeps out drafts and doesn't need tightening.
Check it yourself
An experienced installer sees these signs right away. If something is off, it's better to ask for a fix before signing the acceptance report.
