Door opening measurement

Accurate measurement decides whether the door fits the opening without adjustment and still closes smoothly years later. An error of a couple of centimetres means re-ordering the door or buying extra extension boards — so it's best left to a specialist.

Exact dimensions. The fitter measures not only the width and height of the opening but also the wall thickness, floor level differences and the geometry of the reveals.

Options for non-standard openings. If the opening doesn't match standard sizes, the specialist will suggest a different door size or widening or narrowing the opening.

How the visit works

Inspection.
The specialist checks the condition of the walls, floor and openings.
Measuring.
Width, height and depth are measured at several points to reveal any misalignment.
Choosing the fitting method.
The frame type and fixing are chosen to suit the walls and the selected model.
Measurement sheet.
All dimensions are recorded on a sheet that the manager uses to place your order.

What is taken into account

Wall thickness. If the wall is thicker than the frame, extension boards of the right width are needed.
Finished floor. If the floor isn't laid yet, its final height matters — it determines the gap under the door.
Condition of the opening. Severe misalignment or chipped edges may need preparation before installation.
Type of door. Sliding, folding and concealed doors are measured differently from standard hinged ones.
Services. Wiring, pipes and radiators near the opening can affect the choice of model and opening direction.
