Frequently asked questions about interior doors

These are the questions customers ask most often in GESTORE showrooms and on the phone: how to choose a model, prepare for measurement, place and receive an order, install the doors and look after them. If you can't find your answer here, write to or call the nearest showroom — see the Contacts page.

Choosing a door

Where do I start when choosing an interior door?

First decide which room the door is for, then the interior style, the finish and your budget. Bedrooms and children's rooms call for solid models with good sound insulation; hallways and corridors need a hard-wearing finish and a protected edge; living rooms suit glazed or more decorative designs. The catalogue lets you filter by style, colour and price.

Which finish should I choose?

Each finish has its strengths: eco-veneer and PVC are practical and easy to clean, enamel gives a smooth, deep colour, natural veneer keeps the wood grain. For busy rooms choose a finish that resists knocks and moisture better — showroom staff will advise on a specific model.

What is the difference between an extension board and an architrave?

An extension board covers the edge of the wall when the wall is thicker than the door frame. An architrave is a decorative trim around the opening that hides the joint between the frame and the wall. Both are usually matched to the door colour and priced separately.

Can I see the doors in person?

Yes, GESTORE showrooms have samples of doors, finishes and hardware. Addresses and opening hours are on the Contacts page.

Ordering

How do I place an order?

Choose a model and colour on the website, add it to the cart or leave a request — a manager will call you back, confirm the sizes and set, and calculate the total. If you don't know the size of your openings, we'll arrange a measurement first.

Do I have to book a measurement?

It isn't mandatory, but we recommend it. The specialist takes account of uneven walls and floors, wall thickness and the extension boards you need, so everything goes into the order at once and nothing has to be bought later or exchanged. See the Measurement page.

How long will my order take?

It depends on the model, the finish and warehouse stock. The manager will give you an exact date when you place the order.

Do you make doors in non-standard sizes?

For many models, yes. You'll need exact opening dimensions; lead time and price are usually higher than for standard sizes. Ask the manager whether your model can be made to size.

Delivery and collection

How much does delivery cost?

It depends on the city and address, the size of the order and whether the doors need to be carried upstairs. The manager will tell you the price before the order is confirmed.

Can I collect the order myself?

Yes, if the showroom in your city hands out orders. You'll need a vehicle where the doors can lie flat without bending or knocks.

How do I receive the order without problems?

Count the packages against the delivery note and check the packaging while the driver is there. If anything is damaged, take photos, note it in the documents and tell the manager straight away. Don't install an item with a visible defect.

Payment

What payment methods are available?

Cash, bank card or transfer — the options depend on the showroom. Ask the manager about paying in instalments.

Is a prepayment required?

As a rule, yes: made-to-order items need a deposit, and the balance is paid before delivery or on receipt. The exact terms are set out in the contract.

What documents will I receive?

A contract with the showroom and a receipt. Keep them together with the package labels — you'll need them if any question about the product comes up.

Installation

Do I need professional installation?

We recommend leaving it to a fitter: how smoothly the door closes, and whether gaps appear, depends on the accuracy of installation. Fitting a door yourself without experience often leads to misalignment and damaged finishes.

How long does it take to install one door?

Usually one to three hours. Removing an old door or levelling the opening takes extra time.

What does installation include?

Assembling and fixing the frame, hanging the door, fitting the hardware, installing extension boards and architraves, and final adjustment. Removing the old door and preparing the opening are agreed separately. See the Door installation page.

Care

How should I look after the doors?

Wipe the door with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry it. Avoid abrasive powders, hard sponges, solvents and products containing alcohol or acetone.

What should I clean different finishes with?

Eco-veneer and PVC — a mild soap solution. Enamel — a damp microfibre cloth without pressing. Veneer — a dry or slightly damp cloth, and wood furniture cleaner if needed.

The door has started to squeak or rub against the frame — what should I do?

Most often it's the hinges: tighten the fixing screws and adjust the hinges following the instructions if necessary. If that doesn't help, contact the showroom and we'll send a fitter.
